LAB 2

Part A:

For Part A of this lab we needed to model an object in Rhino, and with the help of Slicer, construct it out of flat material. I initially chose to Model SpongeBob, I finished modeling him in Rhino and uploaded the file to Slicer. The object did not slice the way I wanted it to, I realized that the fingers, arms, and shoes were an issue. Even though I really wanted to construct him out of cardboard, I decided it was not the best decision. I still wanted to keep the SpongeBob theme so I decided to model his home, the pineapple. I am happy with the decision because I preferred how the pineapple was sliced. The construction was simple and I enjoyed the process. If I could change something, I would find a way to make the doors and windows of the pineapple house more visible.

Part B

For part B we needed to model 2 objects to create an environment for our item in Part A.

I initially chose SpongeBob as my object for Part A but I ended up changing it to his pineapple house. I thought it was very fitting for SpongeBob to be one of the objects in this context because I modeled his house. I wanted to incorporate the outdoors into this environment so I decided to model one of the flower clouds. Whenever SpongeBob is outside, these flowers are always seen in the sky, it is a distinguishable shape.

Part C

In part C of this lab we needed to create 3 wood joints. The picture below shows the template for the wood joints, they were ready for the laser cutter. One of the joints I created was like a flat puzzle piece. I also created joint that connected two pieces at a 90 degree angle. One of my joints did not end up working the way I had expected, one piece was suppose to insert into another but it did not fit. This happened because I did not take into account the thickness of the wood properly, the measurements were a little off. Now I know how to prevent this from happening again.
