Hair in Strange New Places

fernanda villalobos

Prompt: Using either your Simple Sculpt or Sculpting Follow-Along Model, apply hair to it in order to give your model an interesting new look.  Before you begin, save a copy of your model's .blend file so that you will continue to have access to it in its original form.  Next, using vertex groups, apply hair to various areas of your model where it makes sense.  Color the hair and comb it into place.

After applying hair paint your model using Vertex Painting mode.  Colors do not need to be overly complex, but some degree of shading and variance should exist within the paint job.

Process:

I decided to apply hair to the owl that I modeled from the follow-along assignment. The color of the original owl looks like clay or ceramic, which reminded me of those chia pets where the chia sprouts are meant to look like hair. I wanted to play with this idea, so the hair that I added to the owl is supposed to look like grass. The vertex painting was simple at first; I added color to the eyes and beak. When I went back to add more color I kept getting the error "Missing Textures, detected".
